Shopping Time…Shopping Time….Shopping Time is Here. Ah, the post birthday season shopping. It hardly gets better than this, except for maybe drinking vast quantities of alcohol, having a great time, and have someone else tell you exactly how great a time you had–memories of the past year (or psuedo-memories as it were). Anyway, I went a little nuts today. I got one of these in gray, and one of these in orange as well as something like this, but without embellem and in waffle! While looking around I was horrified by this and decided that I was too old to continue shopping there. So I went to have coffee.

While in the coffee shop I ran into a former co-worker. Whenever this happens it amazes me that I once worked with people such as this man. He is going to take a class entitled, get ready for it: Office Assistant. I asked if that’s where you learn how to staple. He didn’t find it funny. Apparently he works for a builder in town, which I find odd as this person is not what I imagine builders to look like, mainly because I know real builders and this guy is more of a…um…coffee wench? Dishwasher? Unemployeed dental assistant? Former psycho looking for love? Not a builder. I asked him about the current punk scene, as I realized that I’m out of it. He said he knew who the Sex Pistols are, and I took that as a bad sign. I mean, gosh shouldn’t it be were and doesn’t everyone? Mainly I just wanted to know more about this band without actually buying anything. I got chastised for not knowing them, at least I think I was chastised. I can’t remember.

And the last thing I did today was buy some sauce. It’s good. I hope the people at the new bar will be kind enough make my wings with it.

Happy Birthday to that girl

You know you’ve been gone for a while when you show up to a birthday party and are the first one there and still don’t know anyone.

Well…I did of course know people there including the actual birthday person. Bourbon for everyone I say! However I was unaware that the next day I would be expected to go to work for the people. I’m talking about early morning-ok it was 10-heavy lifting work. It was a load in for the Hyatt’s New Year’s Eve thing. OK, so I stood around and watched a lot, but shit I had to be there. I was suppose to help put together the fireworks, but the electrical stuff hadn’t been run yet so I had nothing. I helped with the build as much as I could, but crap I know very little about rigging…so that was that. Met some cool peeps, one of which looked a lot like this, another kinda looked like this and then there was someone almost like this-on the left.

Also watched the game on one of these. I like my parents’ one better though.

One more week…then back to Chapel Hill and an illness no doubt. As I always get sick when I go there. Both times I swear!

the curse of boxing day

did you know that you can’t eat BBQ on Boxing Day? I’m serious every single BBQ place in town was closed over Boxing Day. I was forced to eat pizza and not even pizza that I like. The delightful Vermont Street BBQ had to wait till the day after.

On the bright side of life I ventured downtown today to get in my coffee drinking brooding in. I went and had a mocha, then a latte at the Java Break. I even saw a cute little Goth couple and remembered what Lawrence was all about. It’s almost like a better version of Chapel Hill or something except I don’t know any of the bartenders here anymore, except for the guy at Henry’s and Uno’s and Moon Bar and Stu’s. Oh…nevermind.

Why do Old People go Crazy?

I don’t mean that really old person crazy, but that parent crazy. You know the one where they start asking for grandchildren, even though you obivously aren’t dating anyone. The one where they buy a huge entertainment center and proceed to watch Grateful Dead concerts on it. Shear craziness I say.

The coolest thing about Airports is the guys with the guns

It used to be the moving walkways, but not anymore. Now we’ve got guys with guns and Cnn on every channel. When you show up they even check your tires for you, you know the old kick test. and then the people at security were nice enough to shine my shoes. Airports are great. However, never fall for the first eatery you see, as I inordinately do every time. This particular layover in the oh-so-glamorus Pittsburg was highlighted by a stop in the Samual Adams Bar–DOH! To my utter dislike of Sam beer I was forced to drink…Budweiser-uck. I feel dirty. Of course later on I saw a Ben & Jerry’s and thought of the Ice Cream Man. Oh Ice Cream Man I do love you, pay no mind to this other icecream in hand.

Question of the transit: Why do flight attendants not see me? Where are my pretzels, huh?

Lovely gifts from Abroad

I got mail!

It was awesome. I walked over today to pick up the package I got yesterday. It was from Japan. That means that somebody in Japan loves me. It turns out that it’s Meggales. I love Meggales. She kindly sent me a fab xmas gift. Two things of sho-chu (I had Ena translate just to make sure) and a nice little sake cup to drink from. Gifts rule.

My gifts and a little stand-up comedy have definately made my day. I’m still trying to recover from Friday. I’m sure that by the time I get home I’ll be okay. *sigh*

Monkeys

That’s how I’m feeling at least. Lots and lots of Monkeys! I actually got up today and went out. That was a good thing. Ms. Poopsie GorillaBuns and I went to go see a movie. We discussed feminism, art, and literature. The death of art is something that troubles us, so I told her about the wacky shit that was out there. She is interested, as am I. We then talked about how sad it is that literature seems to be able to continue to change while art has seemed to stagnate a bit. Conversation moved to philosophy and politics with those ever-annoying objectivists.

The question of the day is, how can people hate Buddists?
