So I left Friday evening after work. I got on I-40 around 5:45pm. Whee. Interstate driving. It was all going smooth until right before the airport. Traffic was backed up. Not that you can tell from the photos but still.
After that it was smooth sailing. I passed by South of the Border, which is always exciting and then into South Carolina. A little over two hours later I got to Georgia. I know, I know…but what do you want. It was 11:30 at night and I was going about 75mph.
I made it to my friend’s house in Savannah. I slept here. I enjoyed the amenities in this bathroom. Yes it includes a television and fish (of the beta variety). I had coffee from the fancy coffeemaker-it grinds and then brews all in one.
In the morning it was raining as I headed out of town. And by out of town I mean across the marshes through Savannah and out of town.
By the time I stopped for a break it had cleared up and things were looking good. I learned a little something and was thankful I wasn’t a pet. And then…Florida at 85mph.
Jacksonville where the Interstate takes a left hand turn and home of the SuperBowl this year.
Daytona where motorcyclists hang out.
Orlando, or Lake Buena Vista where tourists go to spend money.
Next time…dinner, shopping (or at least pretending to shop), the first concert and maybe more!

Last night I had sooo much fun. That’s right. Soooo much fun.
Step One: Happy Hour. Hottie McHothot stood me up, but these things happen. New Fish G said he’d give me a ride home. Cool.
Step Two: M’s birthday at the Wine Bar. I snuck downstairs to pick up my membership card. Where I saw…wait for it. Wait for it. The Witness! He’ll be finishing his degree in May and heading back to Kansas. It was odd. I ran into the one person Heidi said I could tell her secret too. Woo-hoo. So I told it.
After downing a beer I returned upstairs New Fish G joined me for another. When we got back Burt’s Mom was leaving and the band was starting. I have no idea what the bands name is, but they were cool. One of them looked a bit like Becks, another like Lou Diamond Philips, and the third, well. He was a cross between that kid from Napoleon Dynamite and Weird Al.
Step Three: Rejoin Happy Hour at Bub’s. I watched some bad karaoke, as well as some decent karaoke. Most of the gang took off. I hung around with J & L for a bit then went in search of the gang.
Step Four: Reservoir. Looking for the Happy Hour gang, who said they were going to Reservoir failed. Mainly because they weren’t there. After calling them and finding out where they were.
Step Five: Fuse. What used to be Henry’s. It’s very different now. Okay, it’s the same on the inside, but now features a DJ and dancing. Even the guys in the turbans were dancing. Here we found the Happy Hour gang. We hung out for a bit, then C & C & the Amazon went away. New Fish G gave Lady N and I a lift home.
It was a good night.

What year was it? 1996-97 was my senior year.
What were your three favorite bands?
Well, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, and at the end Reel Big Fish.
What was your favorite outfit?
That would have to be the purple dress with green tights, knee high brown-ish socks, and converse one star shoes. I wore that a lot. Also the same A&F sweater that I still have got woren a bunch.
What was up with your hair?
Well, it was the exact same as it is now, except without the blonde highlights. I cut it at the end of sophomore year and stalled out on hairstyle, not that I ever had much.
Who were your best friends?
Heidi Meinen. Brian Stultz earlier in the year.
What did you do after school?
Worked.
Where did you work?
Usually Robert’s Drug Store. Sometimes the video store. At the end of the year I was working at the movie theater in Lawrence.
Did you take the bus?
Nope. I lived in town, a short walk (ok 15 minutes) from the high school.
Who did you have a crush on?
Nate Constantinescu hands down.
Also Kerry Crow, not sure why.
Oh, and Owen Murphy-but who didn’t?
Did you fight with your parents?
Nah.
Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
That’s a good question. I’m sure it was someone worthy, but I can’t remember.
Did you smoke cigarettes?
Nope.
Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?
It wasn’t because I was nervous. It was because I was lazy. I didn’t want to go downstairs to my locker unless I actually had to go downstairs.
Did you have a ‘clique’?
Sure, I guess. The “smart” kids. We had breakfast together until they complained that we were always late. Besides we had all of our classes together.
Admit it, were you popular?
Um. I chose not to be. I was a bit unhappy and therefore didn’t let a lot of people be my friend. I think I probably could have been if I wished it.
Who did you want to be just like?
Audrey Millstein
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Civil Engineer. And look at me now. Unemployeed* and overeducated*.
*Unemployeed-in that I don’t have a full-time job with benefits.
*Overeducated-in that I have a master’s degree from a professional school, but would probably be happy working in a record store (no degree needed).

So I went to dinner with First Year last night. It was surprising normal. Go figure. We ate at 35, the Chinese Restuarant in the ugly strip mall that is home to Granville. The buffet was okay. It wasn’t the best ever, but it wasn’t horrible either.
I left First Year and headed to TJs. I said hi to Peaches and then saw they had a Quality Help Wanted sign in the window. I thought, hey…I’m quality; sort of. So after running to the store with Jennie and watching Distraction, which is awesome. (Pinky you should be on this show!)
I applied. I ran into New Fish G, or he ran into me while I was filling out the application. He was on his way to the Hair Cuttery. Apparently he got a smooth hair cut that requires him to carry mace to fend off the womens.
Anyway at work I decided to take advantage of the vast collection of DVDs. I checked out Lost in Translation and Girl Next Door.
Yes it took me this long to see Lost in Translation. It would be a great movie except the two main people in it are whiney assholes. However I laughed really, really hard throughout the movie. I guess I don’t like the idea that you could be miserable in Tokyo when staying in a super nice place. Being in Fujisawa was great, but my entire apartment (for 3 people) could fit into one-third of my current living situtation.
Girl Next Door made me giggle. And oh I giggled. And I learned something. Don’t mess with adult entertainment producers.
So, I’m going to Florida. I decided to give Florida Girl a call, cause hey, same state and all. She’s actually in Gainsville, but we decided to meet in Orlando at Starbucks, there’s only one right?

Okay, not so much home as ORLANDO! I’m thinking I can drive down there Friday after work, stopping in Savannah for a rest. Then drive back through Charleston and see them again. It’s brilliant.

And I want to go see The Zutons in concert. They are playing in Orlando (tickets still available) and South Carolina (tickets still available). I wanna go. I wanna go. I wanna go. Do you want to go with me? I’ll drive your car.

If you watched todays game at Villanova you are braver than I. I watched as much of it as I could. It was horrible. Like a wreck. I finally got ill enough to look away.
Hopefully UNC will play better and not lose by 21. 21 Ick.
I know, I know. You probably don’t care about basketball. But I do. Seriously. If UNC loses tonight I will have to lock myself away from ESPN for at least a week nursing my wounds. I swear.
In other news, no; wait, I don’t have any other news. Except that I really do dig The Zutons. And…that’s it.

I’ve bowed out on a party in order to stay home and watch Law & Order. Hey, what do you want?
