So our book count may be a little off. The Director believed we had XX,XXX books. Well we pulled the records out of the ILS today. It turns out we have TT,TTT. Ouch! So just to make sure myself and Soccer-Librarian Student and I did a rough count of what is in the stacks. We came up with SS,SSS-even less than the ILS system. Since the Director requested not to hear any bad news I think I might write him a nice letter explaining the situation–at least that way it won’t be audible.

When I finished up that masters degree and looked around Adelaide I saw many textbooks. So I posted along with the furniture I was off-loading onto the student listserv. I did not name the books nor was I asking money. I believe I said something along the lines of, hey I took a bunch of classes and have a bunch of books-if you think you need some text books email me. I probably have what you need for free. Not a single response. In fact I even had to throw away a kitchen table and chairs. Now…8 months later people are selling their texts and apparently it is working. I’m just amazed. The librarian in me would never ask for money for books. I have this theory that because I didn’t list out all 15 or so texts nor ask for money people thought it wasn’t worthwhile or something. Oh well, the Bopp & Smith Reference book is all mine, as is the Deitel book not to mention AACR2, Wynars, Manheimer’s and several organizational behavior and management books. Tough titties SILSers for not acting when you had the chance.

August 25, 2005 at 8:33 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentYes it does hurt to be this stupid. Just in case you were wondering.
Here is just one of three blisters that grace each of my feet. Go stupidity. Because of this I did not travel afar–to the Y–today. Which means I really only have two more days that I can go this week, for some odd reason they insist on closing Sundays.
I think my higher up suggested that I may be an alcoholic. Now I find this funny as I had two drinks last night and had planned on going out tonight. Now…if I’m wrong let me know, but I was under the impression that alcoholics tended to drink a lot more than that and it interferes with their work. While I tend to be slightly more adept at a certain level–but whatever.
I turned “off” the air conditioner. Okay, so it’s just sitting on 85. We’ll see how this goes, as I opened all the windows and you know how lazy I am–therefore I really don’t want to close them.
Wish I had more exciting/comment worthy things to say but I don’t. Damn you Florgia for lack of excitement. [Angry Shaking Fist]

August 24, 2005 at 10:02 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentYou’re walking Home!
So I attended Garden Club this evening. It was really neat. In some ways it reminded me of Monday Club, except that on the whole everyone was older. And it ends around 9pm, while Monday Club tended to run late–like SILS Happy Hour. I walked to Garden Club and thus was walking home (you know being responsible no driving–okay I’m cheap and didn’t deem it worthy of my gas). Some members were aghast. Walk! That far. Little do they know of my drunken stumblings about Chapel Hill-remember this took place in January the first week I was in the Hill. I was lucky I made it back to campus at all!
On my jaunt home I attempted to call a few friends, but alas…no one answered. Turns out Lola was in the pseudo-reality we like to call “back home”. The others, hell I have no idea. Could have been swallowed by his great noodly appendage.

Things of note:
1. The flesh-colored house catty-corner is going to be auctioned. Okay so it probably isn’t flesh colored, but according to my crayola crayons from back in the day it is, today we might say salmon or something equally as asinine.
2. Actually got invited out to drink with the old people tonight. I’m so there.
3. The baseball team had a meeting in the library: HOT.
4. My foot is really starting to hurt. I fear removing my boots to see what kind of horrible wreckage is left behind.
5. Hoping that I passed the doctor audition and now have a primary physician–perhaps he could take a look at my foot.

Yesterday we got a little rain shower. The street flooded as per usual and the network went down at work. So the last hour and a half were quite boring. The rain cooled off the air temperature a good 20 degrees or so. When I ventured home it was cooler outside than in, so I got to open my windows. Now if it would only stay in the 70s. Oh wait…it’s still August.
And now off to work slightly after the crack of dawn.
