Smoking

I used to smoke. I quit. I’m debating starting again. Why? Boredom. Then I remember stuff like this:

So I read this book last night while waiting for the conclusion of the Doink Doink crossover event. While reading it I kept thinking about Hornby’s description of working to finish the book. Reading The Lone Surfer was not work per se. It was just exhausting. Each story is so packed with emotion. It takes time to absorb them. Did I take enough time? I feel I might have rushed Maggie Fever and Elaine. Should I go back and reread? Will it be the same?

I feel that The Lone Surfer is a bit like Everything is Illuminated. I truly enjoyed it and don’t want to ruin my memory of the experience by reading it again. At least not so soon.

Speaking of Everything is Illuminated the film version comes to a theater near you soon. Will the Literary make a good transition to film? Will I feel bitter and disgusted like after watching Bram Stoker’s Dracula or lost like Malcolm X or exciting that the major plot points were actually followed as in the remake of Planet of the Apes? These are things I’m wondering as I tackle the Orwell biography (again).

What I have to go to Work?

So after 4.5 days of weekend it was back to work today. Bummer. I spent the morning hours trying to figure out what I did again and then organizing the last 10 years of Science magazine in the periodical room. Librarians would been in shock at the mess it is, but it is 1000% better than it was when I first started.

I believe my library needs a good Jungle Cataloger. Jungle Catalogers are like Jungle Doctors–they don’t do it for money, but because they want to help. Having close to 20,000 uncataloged books in a library our size is pathetic. Come…catalog…I’ll totally give you course credit and a big thumbs up!

Okay, so I ordered a bunch of postcards to send out. The arrived today. Upon opening the box I thought…I ordered these? Wtf? Sushi postcards…but someone sent me one of these (someone so cool and of extreme taste that I can’t even bring myself to whisper their indentity). Now I can’t send them out. Bugger!

In other news, I spent yesterday reading. What pray tell? Well this book. Of course after reading the book I wanted to keep reading and quickly went to the magazine’s site. And ooo…Amy Sedaris column…must subscribe.

And then some guy from Nation Point called me to say, “here have some money to buy a house. Gosh…really? Uh…wait a tic, I think I might be getting screwed here. Let me sleep on that eh.

T-minus two days till Delphos lands.

Fun with Fire

So on this last day of weekend what have I done? Well not much. That’s what Sundays are for right? On the actual Sunday I went to the women’s soccer game. Where I took some crappy pictures much like this one. See i sat in the shade back away from the field and quite frankly my little digital camera is not really the best one for zoom and stuff.

Today I went and melted a couple of records. Yes LPs. Yes I did this on purpose, much like the array on my wall. The library was tossing them and I swiped them from the trash. Free decorations and all. Any way here my fantastic record bowls. Able to hold more music than your iPod. Sure it’s in a different format but the point is…there is more and it’s all groovy. The other record bowl and all of it’s glory.

Now perhaps I’ll find some cartoons or something on tv. Oh yeah….check out how cute Kaleb is: I can’t wait till I get pictures of him wearing the inappropriate onesies!

Ah Roaming Hordes

As some of you know I have a weakness for roaming hordes of the Steppes. It all started from a 10 hour Learning Channel documentary on the Mongul Hordes (back when The Learning Channel had such things). Anyway, I was cruising netflix a while back and noticed the tv movie Attila. I’m not one to say no to a bad movie tv or otherwise so I queued it. Well it arrived yesterday. Now, I’m not complaining too much, but….

The Gothic historian Jordanes has left us a striking portrait of Attila. He was a typical Hun: short, broad-chested, with a big head, small deep-set eyes, and flat nose. He was swarthy, almost black-skinned, and wore a sparse beard.
The Empire of the Steppes: a History of Central Asia Rene Groussett

Gerard Butler is really none of those things.

In other news I got a haircut yesterday. Now I’m not totally unkept, just partly.

And I saw Tim Burton’s newest creation. Others have said it to be cute and warm and fuzzy and all those things. I just think it shows more of Burton’s bizarre brilliance. Me, the goth couple, and the slightly smelly Hispanic couple enjoyed it immensely.

Two Days of the Weekend Left

And I still don’t have any plans. I’m so lame.

The women lost the game today. But they looked better on the field this weekend than they did last time.

And who wants to backpack around Belize and Guatemala with me? Tour of the Mayan ruins.

Good Morning

Ms. Heidi phoned this morning to tell me about Kaleb Jackson. Tragically Lola phoned yesterday so I already knew. She seemed disappointed not being able to tell anyone. And tired. I suppose a 35 hour labor will do that. I said good move having him over the weekend-cheaper parking and all.

Then my dad phoned. As it turns out he’s working today, tomorrow, and Tuesday and Elfin & Brigette are going down to West Palm to deal with the movers. So going to Savannah would be a little boring as all the peeps are busy or gone.

So it’s Sunday morning and I’ve got fuck all to do. Hmm…Coffee.

Heidi Dropped Pod

There is now a new person in the world. One Kaleb something or another. Kaleb has all ten fingers and all ten toes. Kaleb does not have whatever weird lip/mouth thing I was seeing on television. Congratulation to Kaleb on living and stuff. And congratulation to Heidi for carrying his heavy ass around and pushing him out.

The soccer teams both lost 2-1. The men shouldn’t have lost. It was silly. The two yellow cards were unwarranted and the second goal the other team scored was ridiculous.

I don’t know how the baseball team did. I do know that I didn’t spot anyone with a cast on in the dugout. But as it was pointed out-the brawler may have been told not to show up at all. So who knows.

Nothing else expect when asked about a Halloween costume the first thing that came to mind was Lynndie England. Think about it…Fatigues, cigarette, camera, and demanding all men to drop trou.
