Memorial Day Weekend

May 30, 2006 at 9:33 pm | In RockNRoll | Leave a Comment

I most definitely enjoyed this weekend. Friday night was X-Men 3, which was okay. I expect more from X-Men movies. Friday also entailed going to Waterworks for a couple of brews and meeting J. She made a good first impression since she did buy a round of tequila.

Saturday Lola came to visit. She came bearing gifts, including a jug of Cooperhead and the proper glasses to enjoy it with. We went to Waterworks for a little hummus and to see Chris & J. They left after about an hour claiming they needed sleep…whatever. Lola & I headed over to Finnegan's Wake.

Filmmaker Justin was wasted, NoFX Ian was working behind the bar. It was very strange. We got a couple of drinks and went outside where it was less crowded and smoking is accepted. We were joined by 4 boys. Mike, Will, Mike, and Adam. Mike and Lola chatted for the next hour about Persia or something. Will, Mike, Adam and I talked about random things, including motorcycles. It turns out Will has a 250 so I gave him my card. Motorcyclist must hang out together. Adam is an environmental engineer or something. He does paperwork to make sure the oil spills get cleaned up. Mike…well he was basically passed out. Sidenote: all of these guys were fucking HOT.

The bar closed and everyone scattered. Lola & I hit Steak & Shake for shakes and fries and then headed back to T-ville.

Sunday we enjoyed a leisurely day. We went to the Waffle Shop for breakfast with all of its quarks. Then we went to Tallahassee to see the capitol and ended up grabbing a cup of coffee at Lake Ella. Then we headed to Lake Iamonia for some Yuengling and to hang out with the bikers.

Dinner was the worst Chinese Buffet ever. The waitress was on her cell phone the entire time. I left as if we were interrupting her to ask for things. The food was, well I didn't actually throw-up, but it would have helped. We learned never to eat there again.

Bear joined us at the restaurant and came back to Gretchen for some Kasaritas. It was interesting as Lola told the hipster joke and the theater joke and Bear didn't really get either one. How odd.

Bear left. It started to rain. And then Gail, my new neighbor came over. We talked to her for probably close to an hour and a half.

Monday Lola left. Her flight left at 7:05, so we were up very early. I came back to T-ville and slept more. I got up talked to some people and then slept more. I watched a movie, then slept more. I had dinner and then guess what? That's right people slept.

Today is an Angry Day

Now I didn't wake up angry, even though I told people that I did, in fact I didn't become angry till I got to work. This isn't the everyday annoyed. No this is the "I'm going to put my cigarette out on that bitch's back. How dare she wear white pants and a teal fucking tong!" angry.

I suppose it had to do with the stupid ass things I.M. is asking me to do. Listen I agree that we need a policy for children in the library. I think we need to rework all of our policies, but I also think it should be the new Director who does this…as they will want to do so anyway. So having me do research on this, type something up and type another thing up seems completely pointless to me. Especially when I could be working on things that are way more important in my mind: like inventory or going through the backlog of book to see what we really need. Just a fucking thought.

That and I.M. wants me to get rid of the recycling boxes. I said fuck that; no way. He said can't we do something about them. I said if you want to buy nice plastic bins that would be great. He retorted we don't have the money for that. I countered then we will continue to use the boxes that we get from the copy paper. Blah, blah, blah it looks bad. Blah, blah, blah no that's just the library. Now can I please get back to updating our periodical holdings the hard way because Library Worker T won't fucking finish the interface I need. Thank you.

And I like my new student worker I do. But she's doing things awfully slow. I know that she is being careful, but I feel like I can't take my lunch/dinner break because she won't continue working if I do. I hate that. Damn you!

FTPT is awesome though. She has already rocked through what was sitting behind Waste of Space's desk for well the entire time I've worked here.

Ouch

Being on a hiring committee hurts the head. Arguing over resumes is certainly interesting; especially when there is a dearth of resumes. Tomorrow I'll have to put together some questions to ask. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Reasons Why Todays Workout Sucked

May 24, 2006 at 8:47 pm | In RockNRoll | Leave a Comment

1. Vodka & Cranberry
2. Little sleep
3. Dehydration

1. Last night as I was locking up the library Bear showed up. He wanted to have a drink. I said okay. He said, right on I'll meet you at yours. Ah, so he wants some of my alcohol–that's cool. It's not like I don't have the basics. So post-work Bear shows up. He finishes the Jack and starts in on the captain. I make myself one vodka & cranberry. That does it. I have a buzz–so of course I make myself another one. Bear asks to take the captain with him–as I'm a happy drunk I say sure.

2. JennieD rang last night. She's leaving for Romania today. Apparently some of the birds over there have the flu. JennieD was convinced that she was going to get it and bring it back to America killing everyone. I said, JennieD…don't make out with chickens and you'll be fine. This conversation was followed by text messages from Jett. Jett and his new photo-phone proves to be a dangerous combintation.

3. Because I did not drink the water that was sitting beside my bed I was a little dehydrated. I didn't realize this of course, until I was 5 minutes into my workout. That woozy feeling I was looking for yesterday, well I found it. No thanks. I cut my workout in half due to extreme icky feeling.

Library Land

Life in Library Land is getting interesting. I am officially in charge of the student workers. This means that I sign the time cards and everything. Woot. Time to be hardcore manager. No you may not take a break! I don't care if you have to pee. Hold it in. Do not pee in the library. No you may not go get a drink. If you do it'll be deducted from your timecard!

I've been running around all day. This is the first time I've had a minute and what do I do? Freaking blog. Oh well.

Been going through applications (resumes & coverletters) for the open positions here. Man, this is eye-opening. Going through this process will definitely make my own coverletters and resumes better. Most of the people applying aren't even remotely qualified. However, I want to interview someone on the basis of there email address alone: rockwillliveforever. Come on…that's cool.

I am disappointed in my fellow SILSers for not applying. Does this mean they hate me? If so, fuck them. Fuck them right in the ass. If not, well disregard the previous two statements.

Been going through Waste of Space's desk. I've found a bunch of crap. Literally crap. I've thrown away over half of what was there. I don't need P.O.s from 2002. I just don't. It's absolutely amazing. The Interim Manager wants to know when I'll get a chance to go through the other huge bookcase full of uncataloged books in his office, well as soon as I have a book truck. Which means Full-Time Part-Timer will have to learn to catalog first. Which means Library Worker T must train FTPT first. So whenever that happens. Jesus.

Weekend Round Up

May 22, 2006 at 8:11 pm | In RockNRoll | 6 Comments

Let's see. Saturday I went to see Art School Confidential. I surveyed this film and found it wanting. More specifically Todd Kasow and Robin Lee, the music editors together with Robert Hoffman, the film editor well you guys get bitch-slapped. I clearly felt a montage, but arg no montage music and nothing to really carrying the different scenes together. I liked the film, but certain editing/music choices were difficult to stomach. I suppose it was to be expected, but damn…since when does a montage not have montage music?

Post film I headed to Finnegan's Wake. I had a couple of beers curiosity of Kevin. We discussed the duct-tape dress business. He suggested the duct-tape underwear. I couldn't help but think of the current underwear featured in Achewood. Mine would not feature a cantilever phone unit, but rather velcro tabs at the side for quick removal.

Anyway, ran to Waterworks for a turkey-apple sandwich & fries. I split it with Robin. Had a couple more beers and then drove home. Talked to a wonderfully drunk Caracle & Lauren on the drive. And then Kaleb's mom with Lola in the background.

Sunday was lawncare/motorcycle day. I mowed the lawn. It is dead sexy now. Seriously. I might even take a photo of its glory. Then I SSS and met the Dixie Bikers for a ride.

It was a good ride. I had fun and got sunburnt.

Got home around 6pm. Had dinner, as the chili dog at Lake Iamonia did not count. And then fell asleep. The sun and wind had gotten to me. There is something about going 80mph without a helmut that sets the soul free.

Computer Issues Resolved

Matt gets a shot or beer or a case of beer delivered straight to his gullet. I have purchased his recommended PC from United Micro. It should arrive within the week.

A monitor has also been purchased, again recommended by Matt. And later today I'll be in Tallahassee perusing the keyboards and mice available.

As soon as the new computer arrives and I get it set up I'll be changing the address of the blog. Don't worry you'll all get plenty of notice. I will also be offering duct tape designs–right now it is very limited: tube-top, skirt, handbag, wallet, and messenger bag. It may become more complex in the future or that might just be my entire line of duct tape fashions.

Also I'm in the process of making shoes and an overcoat out of plastic. Oh yes there will be photos! I'm off to see a movie and pretend like I'm smart.

So back in the day

The Lubricator & Other Adventures

May 18, 2006 at 4:08 pm | In RockNRoll | Leave a Comment

Last night was the last sushi night at Jasmine's. It has been deemed unworthy. Although I enjoy getting a giant mug of green tea, the quality of sushi and ambience has gone downhill (as in 12th Street downhill). We shall eat there no more.

Waterworks, though is a tried and true watering whole. It is here that I get to hear stories of The Lubricator, an action hero more important than Flatulence Man, more slippery than Burnished Steele, and sexier than Captain Obvious. The Lubricator is a caped hero welding KY–think webslinger of Spiderman who is able to ease any situation. And, the best part…is often found imbibing at Waterworks. Ah, the excitement.

Every so often The Lubricator ventures to Finnegan's where we know the party gets started. The Lubricator witnessed a drunken tree climbing incident last Sunday–the second that I know of–which ended the only way it could: embarrassment. Girl 1 convinced Underage Boy 1 to climb tree with her. Girl 1 proceeds to examine Underage Boy 1's throat with her tongue. Girl 1 loses balance and falls out of tree. Everyone at Finnegan's points and laughs.

I took Toby to town last night. Toby hasn't been to Tallahassee in ages and needed to get out of T-ville. While at Finnegan's I stored my helmut in Chris' car. When I retrieved said helmut and used it to protect my head, well it smelled. It smelled like, well Chris' car. A little fruity, a little sweet, a little while Chris. It was freaky. Note to self: do not store helmuts in Chris' car. Who knows what The Lubricator has done in it and I certainly don't wish to smell it.

There’s the Other Shoe

May 16, 2006 at 7:47 pm | In Library | Leave a Comment

Well it’s finally official. Library Worker K, the one who stole my air and invaded my sense of place and generally annoyed me turned in her resignation today. Her last day will be on Friday. This makes me jump for joy and curse her name at the same time. I have this horrible feeling that there is no documentation on what she actually does. Apparently she’s the only one in the library who knows how to import records from OCLC. WTF!

This means I have to get her to write it all down and share the information before she leaves, as well as finish cataloging all the books behind her desk. Pipe dream? Of course, but it’s my pipe dream you can’t have it. No you can’t even hold the pipe.
